Grand Opening of the 45R Ginza 5-Chome Flagship Store

Half a Century of Indigo Soul, Reaching the Pinnacle of Japanese Craftsmanship Aesthetics

45R celebrates a new chapter in Ginza with the opening of its first four-story flagship at Ginza 5-Chome—marking 20 years in the neighbourhood and a continued devotion to Japanese craft, nature and everyday life.

 

Created by 45R President Shinji Takahashi with traditional carpentry atelier “Sankakuya”, the store is made to age gracefully. Built with solid Japanese timber and reclaimed vintage wood, it relies on traditional joinery rather than adhesives, tape or screws. Even after a decade, structures crafted this way can be dismantled, relocated, and imbued with entirely new value – embodying 45R’s steadfast commitment to environmental sustainability and cultural preservation. 

FOUR-FLOORS EXPERIMENTIAL SANCTUARY 

1F : Cherished Items


A “Room of Chestnut”, dedicated to the enduring pieces at the heart of 45R: classic selvedge denim jeans, bandanas, denim shirts, T-shirts and the gender-neutral 908 Series. At the entrance, a monumental Myanmar teak structure and an antique warehouse door (Kura-do) welcome visitors inside.

2F : Seasonal Joy & YASUMINATE


The signature curved wall (R-wall) returns, along with reclaimed Bubinga wood display tables from former location. Hand-carved Naguri chestnut wall panels bring warmth to the space. 

Here, YASUMINATE presents looks styled by Chief Designer and Executive Director Yasumi Inoue—an intimate expression of 45R’s signature aesthetic.

3F : Ai Shokunin & IROIRO45


A dedicated home for “Ai Shokunin”, where indigo is celebrated “From Farm to Shop”. From growing indigo plants to hand-dyeing yarn, 45R works closely with master artisans to preserve endangered dyeing techniques. The floor is watched over by “Ai-hiko” and “Ai-hime”, figures created by renowned sculptor Satoshi Yabuuchi to tell the story of indigo dyeing.

4F : Chabatei


Chabatei is a small world of tea, art and hospitality. With traditional hiwadabuki (cypress bark thatched) roofing details, wood-fired hexagonal ancient floor tiles and traditionally prepared matcha, it offers a moment to rest. The space is slated to host 24 exhibitions throughout the year, bringing together traditional Japanese craftsmanship and contemporary artistic creation with the world.

Each floor is shaped by the character of its wood—Chestnut, Teak, Hinoki (Japanese Cypress), Keyaki (Zelkova) and more—bringing texture, fragrance and the passing of time into the store. Tokonoma (床の間) —a traditional Japanese display alcove— frames seasonal art objects and invites guests to pause, reflect, and connect with the heritage of every floor.

  • Marking brand’s 50 Anniversary, 45R’s first four-storey flagship is more than a fashion destination—it is a living home for the brand’s enduring dialogue between clothing, Japanese culture and everyday life. Across four immersive floors, guests are invited to encounter 45R through cherished items, personal styling, Ai indigo, matcha, art and the warmth of Japanese hospitality.

Timeless Architecture, Made to Be Renewed

  • Created with 45R President Shinji Takahashi and traditional carpentry atelier Sankakuya, the Ginza flagship honours Japan’s culture of wood. Built from solid Japanese timber and reclaimed vintage wood, the space uses traditional joinery in place of adhesives, tape and screws—allowing its materials to mature gracefully and, one day, be carefully dismantled, relocated and given new life.

From Indigo Field to Tea Room

  • The 45R Ginza Flagship Store expresses the full breadth of Japanese Monozukuri, from Ai indigo cultivated and hand-dyed with master artisans, to spaces made with time-honoured woodcraft. Its final floor, Chabatei, extends this philosophy through traditionally prepared matcha and a year-round programme of exhibitions, creating a place where craftsmanship, art and thoughtful hospitality meet.
