At 45R, Monozukuri—the art of making—begins with the material. This winter, discover Donegal tweed created with Irish weaving house Magee 1866, the richly textured Aspen Jacquard, and Float Boiled: an airy Merino wool knit, softly fulled for exceptional warmth and comfort. Much of the collection is carefully made in 45R’s dedicated SDL workshop, where each fabric carries its own story—shaped by careful making and made to be lived in through the years.

MADE AT SDL 45R

Much of 45R’s knitwear is made at SDL 45R, the brand’s dedicated workshop. Here, knitting, washing, cutting and sewing come together in one place—a rare approach that allows each stage to inform the next. Yarns are knitted into fabrics with subtle irregularities and plenty of air, washed to bring out their natural character, then carefully cut and sewn. It is through this continuous, hands-on process that 45R knitwear develops its softness, depth and distinctive feel.

DONEGAL TWEED

45R has partnered with Magee 1866, the renowned Irish tweed and fabric house, to create the Donegal Tweed series. Donegal tweed originates from County Donegal, Ireland, and is recognised for its colourful flecks, natural nepps and enduring warmth. With a history deeply connected to Ireland’s landscapes, traditions and everyday life, the fabric carries a character that continues to inspire 45R. Magee 1866 has over 150 years of experience in designing, weaving and tailoring fine fabrics in Donegal—one of the world’s three great tweed-producing regions. Known for its distinctive flecked texture, rich colour layering and durable warmth, the mill shares 45R’s belief in quality, heritage and making things properly. 45R brings this traditional fabric into contemporary designs, creating pieces with both history and a modern ease.

The Aspen Jacquard series is inspired by Aspen, the Rocky Mountain town known for its alpine scenery and outdoor spirit. FLOAT BOILED

Float Boiled is one of 45R’s signature winter fabrics: a warm, airy and lightweight knit made from Merino wool. The yarn is spun with air at its core, creating a soft, cloud-like feel that brings warmth without weight. After knitting, the fabric is carefully fulled through pressure and friction, drawing the fibres together into a denser texture that helps keep out the wind while retaining its light, enveloping softness.
